ABOUT WATSON Tax LAWYERS
Who We Are
Watson Tax Lawyers advises on commercial disputes where legal, tax and commercial considerations need to be weighed together, rather than in isolation.
Commercial disputes often require more than technical legal analysis. They involve judgment about leverage, risk, cost, timing, reputation and the likelihood of resolution. The practice is focused on helping clients assess their position realistically and pursue strategies that protect value as far as possible.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
How the Process Works for Commercial Disputes & Negotiated Resolutions
01
Confidential Discussion & Case Review
We begin with a confidential discussion about the dispute, the parties involved, the history and the client’s commercial priorities, then review key documents and correspondence.
02
Assessment of Position, Risks & Options
Anthony assesses the legal and commercial position, including strengths, weaknesses, risks and practical options for resolution, enforcement or exit.
03
Strategy, Negotiation & Documentation
We develop and implement a strategy — which may involve negotiation, structured settlement, variation of arrangements or, where necessary, litigation — and assist with the associated documentation and communications.
04
Follow‑Through & Risk Management
As matters progress, Anthony remains involved to adjust strategy in light of new information or developments, and to help manage ongoing risk after resolution where appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions about Commercial Disputes & Negotiated Resolutions
What types of disputes do you typically act on?
We are usually engaged on disputes that are significant for the business or group — including contractual disputes, ownership and partnership disputes, and disputes within family entities and private groups.
Do you always recommend litigation?
No. Litigation is one tool, not an end in itself. Our role is to assess the position realistically and advise on options, which may include negotiation, structured settlement or, where appropriate, litigation.
How do you work with our current lawyers or counsel?
We can work alongside existing commercial lawyers and counsel, particularly where there are structural, tax or governance dimensions to the dispute that require additional input.
When should we seek advice?
Earlier is generally better – when signs of strain first appear, rather than after positions have hardened. However, we are also engaged once disputes are well advanced, including after proceedings have commenced.
